My mother was Jean Anne Guy from Brighton who was a professional ice-skater. I recently visited England in May 2019 to see my Uncle Tommy I had not seen in 40 years. We visited the Chiddingly Parish, Chalvington, and a few others and I was able to take pictures of some Guy graves. I have several Funnels on my tree married to different Guys. I loved the way you did your site. It was very informative. I noticed you didn\'t have any Chiddingly grave Pictures so if you would like me to add some, please let me know. Was wondering if there is a society there in England that does visit graves to get pictures for many of us that cannot take them? Also, is there a parish listing of graves offered from the various parishes where we can look up who is buried there? Any help would be a blessing from anyone. dgwhitney@hotmail.com Thank you |

I think your site is brilliant. We visited Ripe and Laughton a number of years ago looking at graves etc. so your information will be brilliant for me to check that my Family Tree is correct. Well done for all the hard work that certainly has gone into this. Reading other peoples comments, my second cousin Murray Stenning from Australia has given me so much information as well. Once again well done. Kindest Regards. |

This past May, my wife and I vacationed in the England. Some of the time was spent in Chiddingly as my mother and grandparents came from the area. We stayed at the Netherwood Lodge while in the area. My mother was born in Chiddingly and when we visited the chruch on a Sunday, the vicar volunteered to pull the baptism book and we saw her entry. My mother and her parents lived at Willett's farm until my grandfather was offered to work the Wick Farm in Blackstone, West Sussex (near Hassocks). The family name "Barton" is still in evidence in the churchyard as my great uncle Dennis and his wife are buried there. One of his daughters still lives in the area as does one of her daughters. For a time, Dennis Barton used to live in the "Toll House" at the corner near Farley Farm. In addition to the Bartons, my grandmother's family came from East Hoathly and while none of those relations survive today, they are interned at the East Hoathly church,. Chiddlingly has a wonderful pub (Six Bells) that we patronized twice during our short stay. |

I think I am related by marriage. My husband is the 4x Great grandson of Mary Funnell and Thomas Guy. If the information I have is correct Mary was born approx 1760 give or take a few years and Thomas was born circa 1757. I tried to email you directly, but I had the email returned. Would love for you to get in touch. |

Found your site whilst researching my family tree. My greatgrandfather married Louisa Mitchener (1851 - 1899) in 1883. Louisa was a grandaughter of Harriet Funnell and John Mitchener. |

Fascinating and informtive website. It tied up so many loose ends for me, so thank you very much. I was trying to track Emily Guy nee Ellis. It seems she was the second wife of George Guy of Hylands and before she married him she was his housekeeper. The gravestone inscription on your site cleared up a few ties for me for her and the tao children mentioned on the inscriptions which I didn't know about. She also had a son Francis Henry who died in 1863. I believe she is the daughter of Mary Ellis nee Knight, who is the sister of my great-great grandfather Joel Knight (of Heathfield). Joel and Mary's widowed mother, Ann Knight, is in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census in Chiddingly. In 1861 the widowed Emily Guy is living with Ann with her son Francis. By curious coincidence, Elizabeth, Emily's younger sister by 7 years, married a John Funnell born in Chiddingly in 1826/27. They married in Brighton in June 1855 and he became a baker in Hove. Perhaps not such a coincidence though reading your site of Funnells and Guys! Thanks for all your hard work. It certainly is appreciated. Best of wishes NeelaX4Xk |
