My parents have lived in Chislehurst for over 50 years, they still live there, my Dad was a police man at the station in the high street, which i believe is now a restaurant. I went to Red Hill school and moved away when I got married, I now live in Canada and I am visiting in March 2010 with my daughter and her boyfriend, his first trip to England, so this site has great memories and I have worked out where I can take him, ie the pubs, the caves and just for nice walks around the area. Thanks.

Noticed on here comments about St Marys/Sainsburys being built 1980. I went to several nursery schools in Chis, one of these burnt down & Sainsburys was built on the site; presumably St Marys?? I moved from Chis 1976 so Sainsburys must have been built b4 1980? Have very fond memories of walks across the common from Old Hill into the village. Feeding the ducks at the pond. Beautiful buildings in the area. Went to St Georges Bickley Primary in the late 70's. I was named after Susan's Wood

Thanks for your site. My first visit to the UK included 3 weeks in Chislehurst over Christmas/New Year 2001/2002 staying with friends. I had a wonderful time touring around Kent and beyond. I remember the first morning walking out to frozen puddles and frost everywhere - it was magical. I have so many good memories form that time and this site brings it all back. A bit of a busy background, disappointed that some of the info especially the FAQ section was a bit empty.Would have been nice to see more photos of the area and not just somebodys family album!

Worked and lived briefly at Coed Bel hostel as a very young volunteer on the reception desk in 1992 until it closed at the end of that year. Have very fond memories of the area as it was the first place I lived when I left home & remember a very nice bakery that sold great carrot cake and walking in the woods on cold,crisp November afternoons.Would love to know what the hostel is now used for? Also used to go to a local Girls Brigade Company I think it was in Petts Wood, played cornet with their band for a while. Used to occasionally drink at a great pub somewhere on the common (near some large holes in the ground!?!) but couldn't find it in the pub guide, can't remember the name either?!
