I am interested in the history of the ELIM GROVE Hotel along the branch of Austin Creek of the North Pacific Coast RR. This was a Victorian-style hotel and I understand was relocated. The hotel was a prime destination for travels to that region in 19th century. |

So glad to see that the site has continued to exist after the passing of its creator. My father built one of the first redwood cabin in the Canyon when it was first opening up in the early \'50s. It was a time of bulldozers, blue jays stealing pancake remains off the deck, mountain lions tumbling over garbage cans, kayaking behind the rock dam pool and a myriad of swallowtail and other butterflies flitting through the grass and sun flooded clearings. The road on the west side of the creek was still graveled at the time. Also remember waking up to the sound of our propane tanks floating on December 22nd 1955, scarey enough for the family to sell the house before it got seriously flooded the following year. Visited the area again during a stay back \"home\" from 1996 to 2002, before my return to public school teaching here in Burgundy, France. Left \"behind\", at that time, our French born son who is now, in turn, raising his family in hometown Santa Rosa. |

Came across one of those Northern CA daytrip guidebooks published in the 70s and in the section covering Cazadero there is a photo of what looks to be a homemade monument with the words "Oredazac Oracle" and what seems to be a vague story about "A. Rube" (ha ha) losing his wagon load while fording Austin Creek and then in 1971 "the year of ecology" someone deciding to erect a memorial to "bottles of no-return" and that otherwise "nothing ever happened here." It makes me laugh and reminds me of a Richard Brautigan poem, but I couldn't find a single piece of information about it or its creator. I was hoping you might have some information to satisfy my curiosity. Otherwise, thank you for keeping history alive! |

I was really glad to find this web site, loved reading the comments others wrote. My dad and mom(Al and Mary MacKillop) stopped at the Sky Room often on their Sunday rides. Dad remembered going hunting with his dad and uncles at Trospers when he was just a little guy, maybe 6 years old, he tried many times to find Trospers but sadly he never did. We have pictures here somewhere taken on a wooden bridge at Trospers, I'll have to look for them. Thank you for this web site. Keep up the good work, please. |

My parents and friends of the family use to live in Cazadero. Does anyone remember Jesse Morrow or the Travers Family? I used to summer there when my twin and I was about 7- 9. Remember swiming in the river and diving off the submerged rock and trying to catch crawdads. Having ice cream at the pharmacy/ice cream parlor in the store and walking up the long hill to Jesse's big house. What great memories of a great little town and a good time in my life. If anyone remembers the Travers or Jesse Morrow, would like to hear from you. Thanks .......J |
