A bit of help required....

Hi there,

I am a Worcestershire based birder who is visiting Somerset next week for a few days and was hoping to fit in a bit of birding whilst down that way.

I am staying in Watchet and wandered if anyone could recommend any interesting birding sites nearby. I had already pencilled in a visit to Steart on the way down.

It's not an area I have visited before so any information will be much appreciated.

Cheers
Jason

Re: A bit of help required....

Ham Wall and Meare Heath are both worth a visit.

Re: A bit of help required....

Many thanks Cliff...I will bear those in mind

Re: A bit of help required....

Closer to Watchet, you could give Dunster Beach a try. A walk westward from the pay and display beach car park along the low sand dunes, passing the beach chalets, and then onward along the edge of the golf course towards Minehead, often turns up a few migrants at this time of year, and don't forget the small lake and its footpath immediately behind the chalets on the landward side.

Alright Richard...long time know speak.

Not quite sure what the plans are for next week. Down for a few days with the boss (sorry I mean wife) so will basing much of the activities around days out and about with her. I reckon any birding I do will be local(ish)such as Dunster etc. But will take your number and if it looks like I do get a free day will give you a bell
