Birdwatching at Shapwick Heath

A lovely, peaceful morning produced a good selection of birds. Waders on the drained lagoon included wood sandpipers, greenshank and green sandpipers plus nine great white egrets and the usual supporting cast of lapwings, ducks and godwits. Drama arrived in the shape of a peregrine making a low level, unsuccessful attack. Elsewhere, bitterns, marsh harriers, ravens and hobbies offered further interest.

Most birds still there this afternoon - 2 wood sand, 3/4 green sand, 1 greenshank, 1 redshank, 1 ruff, lots of ducks, lapwing and blackwits. Plenty of little egrets, but greats only in flight.
