Two redstarts seen, one yesterday (29th), and one today (30th). The first near Hardington 747531, in a hedgerow. Also, between Hardington and Hemington, 3 hares, 2 roe deer and a barn owl chick on the ground, which I made the difficult decision to take to a woman in Frome who rehabilitates birds. Very weak and no flesh on the breast bone, I thought it was starving and unlikely to survive the night, or be taken by predators.
Then on Blackmore Vale today, a redstart also in a hedge, seen By Bruce Taylor, looking more grey than yesterday's, possibly juv. male? 731226, close to the fields in Blackmore Vale that flood in the winter. Also, a nightingale in the hedge at Temple Lane nearby (Jenny Vickers).
