Cuckoo at Catcott Lows

Stopped off at Catcott Lows at about 5:30. Two pairs of Greylag with young in the dwindeling waters but the high light was a Cuckoo calling. It was two fields up from the reserve heading back towards Catcott village. Showed well in a tree before flying off towards Burtle.

Re: Cuckoo at Catcott Lows

Well done, I hear them often but have only seen 1 in the last 2 years! Your whitethroat/skylark pic is a sedge warbler, you can make out the broad supercilium and dark crown in the first photo, it makes quite a distinctive impression. Hope that helps.

Re: Cuckoo at Catcott Lows

Thanks Oliver. It was calling quite loudly so took me a while to work out how far away it was. Really pleased to have spotted it.

Corrected the Sedge Warbler on the blog BTW :¬)
