An afternoon visit produced, the hoped for, Redstart & Tree Pipit. Both found where the ground drops in terraces nearer to Black Rock. On our walk down, there were about a dozen Willow Warbler singing and we heard a Whitethroat near the top but it refused to show.

Sounds like you had a good visit. Where about is Velvet Bottom? Might have a look myself sometime
Or if you were in the Cheddar Gorge, drive up to the Black Rock area [some parking here] and walk through the wooded pathway, Velvet Bottom is at the top of that walk.also here is WWT area Longwood ,good for Woody's the odd tawny and little owl,also treecreeper
