Walking on the sharpham - Ashcott road I noticed a medium sized bird with a fluttering flight flying along a drain into a tree. I had no bins, and the bird was about 100 metres away. In the bright midday light it appeared almost fawn in colour. Size was a little bigger than a blackbird. No obvious markings were visible, but from experience of hoopoes in Europe the flight pattern seemed right.
The bird was seen from the durston peat factory, looking across the old peat workings towards the hill. It flew on the far side of the of the drain beyond the peat workings in an easterly direction.
