Returned for another visit this afternoon between 14:30 and 17:00. No sign of the LRP or the GWT, but a distant Ruff flying with Lapwings was new. Also 2 Curlew, Peregrine and a different Marsh Harrier (sub-ad male?).

Re: Green Winged Teal

Both Green-winged Teal and LRP present at Greylake this morning (per Ash Warne via Twitter)

Re: Green Winged Teal

The Little Ringed Plover was showing fairly well this afternoon (though looking rather cold), but couldn't find the Green-winged Teal. Lots of Teal hiding in the rushes though.

The drake Green-winged Teal showed, though not very well, at around 14:00. It had been in the open just prior to my arrival, but had swam into the reeds where we could just about make out its distinctive vertical breast-stripe. After a while it move out of the reed-clump, but the far side from us, then took flight with other teal and disappeared over the far side.
No sign this afternoon of the Little Ringed Plover, but 2 Sand Martins flew through.

Re: Green Winged Teal

No sign of the GWT between 4.30 and 5.30pm

Re: Green Winged Teal

Drake Green-winged Teal present at 11:55, when Teal flock were flushed from cover by a Buzzard. It was showing until 12:45, when it flew into cover again.

Re: Green Winged Teal

Green-winged Teal present again today, though elusive as always. It flew on to the back of the pool front right of the hide just before 6pm this evening with a flock of Teal, disturbed from cover by a Marsh Harrier flying over, and showed for maybe 5 minutes, displaying to any female that came near, before sidling off back into the cover of the rushes.

Re: Green Winged Teal

3rd attempt in 3 days finally bore fruit this morning when it flew in with a small group to the back of the pool and immediately melted into the rushes at the back. Despite a Merlin flashing through low and fast briefly chasing a Redshank and a Peregrine flying over it was one of the few birds which didn't reappear until about 11am when at last one of the Marsh Harriers came close enough to spook it out onto the 'swamp' where it could be seen clearly. Also a Ruff today and yesterday when it was accompanied by a Black-tailed Godwit festooned with red colour rings..

Re: Green Winged Teal

Present again this morning in the marshy area to the left of the hide, showing reasonably well in the open but distant. Also a pair of Garganey in the area to the front of the hide but not close.

Re: Green Winged Teal

Sleeping on bank straight in front of hide at 11.30. Also 2 LIttle Ringed Plover.
