Field Meeting Cheddar Res

Stephen Moss and I will lead the final field meeting of the year at Cheddar Res this Saturday 13th at 0930. Park in the Cheddar Car-park (by the cemetery) and meet by the Cheddar Tower. The forecast is good and conditions after the expected strong winds on Thu/Fri could be promising. Should take around 4 hours. All welcome, members and guests.

A very good and well attended field meeting, in fine weather, thanks to Brian and Stephen the co-leaders for a most enjoyable morning's birding. The highlights, and all good views, were the adult drake Long-tailed Duck, 6 Red-crested Pochard (3 drakes), juvenile Great Northern Diver, drake Scaup, drake Goosander and at least 5 Goldeneye among the many Pochard, while others included a pair of sun-loving Little Owls, near to the water treatment plant, and a Green Woodpecker.

I'd like to add my thanks to Brian and Stephen. It was a very enjoyable morning. There were a couple of firsts for me - the long tailed duck and the red crested pochard.
