Male Hen Harrier at Helland

While watching a white-faced Common Buzzard inspecting a newly cleared drain edge this morning at Helland Meads, it put up a male Hen harrier which flew off westward, away from West Sedgemoor. Of the two, the white-faced, white-fronted buzzard was probably the more interesting.

Really?!!

Re: Male Hen Harrier at Helland

Afraid so. Harrier was normal pattern and didn't stay long although good looking bird. The buzzard was a very curious mix of light and dark feathers, especially around the head. Usually see a completely light phase with these, not a combination.

Re: Male Hen Harrier at Helland

I'm with you James. The Buzzard does sound a nice looking bird, but a male Hen Harrier! You normally need to travel hundreds of miles to see these birds. And i do.
