A very late migrant

Over the border but quite interesting A very late migrant, caught and ringed at Chew Valley Lake this morning a Lesser Whitethroat! Our previous latest date for this species was 24 Sept in 2005. It was possibly trying to avoid the conflict zone in the Middle East, their usual migration south takes them around the Eastern Mediterranean.

Re: A very late migrant

Hi Alan,
I've seen the in the hand pic on Twitter. Date suggests blythi, but it doesn't look particularly brown-toned in that pic?

Re: A very late migrant

Hi Julian, Measurements were taken and interestingly although the long P2 doesn’t fit for blythi the measurements for primaries 6, 7 and 8 are within the blythi range and out of the curruca range! We have a couple of small body feathers (not deliberately pulled out!!)that we are going to try to get DNA from hopefully.
