Saw a raven strutting around Sainsburys car park in Frome this afternoon - completely unperturbed by all the shoppers! Have previously heard ravens over Victoria Park in Frome, but surely such a very urban sighting is unusual?
There are a few Ravens that are resident around Street, although not right in the town centre, and rarely on the ground when people are around. Perhaps it is one of those that regularly feed on the left over meat in the big cat enclosures at Longleat, so has become more used to cars.
I think that the 'Street' Ravens are also the ones that hang around the Church just off the High Street in Glastonbury??
The Ravens in the East of the County have been gradually increasing in numbers for the past 20 years and seem likely to increase year on year for the immediate future with more breeding taking place. They can be very approachable. We have a resident pair at the back of our House in Coleford.
Yes, ravens do seem to have increased significantly in East Somerset. We have had at least one pair breeding in Chantry for some years now, and they and their offspring regularly clear our bird-table. Especially fond of pizza!
