WWT Steart Marshes 30/8

The footpaths around Steart Marsh are now open and with them the two hides overlooking the lagoons. This afternoon juvenile Little Stints were present both from the Polden hide (adjacent to Marsh Farm) and in scrapes viewable from the northern section of the embankment, plus juvenile Little Ringed Plovers at this site.

Re: WWT Steart Marshes 30/8

all the above plus 2 greenshank at lunchtime.
was informed that they are going to let the tide breach on the 5th of sept
to flood the marsh .

Re: WWT Steart Marshes 30/8

Just one Greenshank and one LRP from the new Mendip hide this morning plus 2 juvenile Marsh Harriers.
Wall Common over high tide: At least 500 Dunlin/Ringed Plover on the shingle. It could easily have been nearer a thousand birds. Just one Curlew Sand and 2 Turnstone among them.

Re: WWT Steart Marshes 30/8

The works to complete the breach in the River Parrett embankment are due for completion next week. However it'll be the sequence of high spring tides beginning the week 8th September that will over-top the new creek system and begin to cover the fields. Please use the main WWT car park on Stert Drove and follow signs to either the Mendip or Polden Hides to view the event. Remember to view the high tides you will need to visit early in the morning - otherwise the tide will either be out or it'll be dark!!!
