Walking past the Shapwick Heath scrape last evening at around 20.45 I was privileged to watch a Barn Owl working its way along the far canal bank. It flew right past me with a brief glance in my direction with just the canal between us. Moments later it dropped into grass and then rose with its catch. Doing a detour around the bushes, to avoid me, it made its way to deliver dinner. Within a minute or two it was back out and heading into Meare Heath.
