Lower Severalls area, Crewkerne.

This week has seen the highest totals of Golden Plover, 295, and Lapwing, 130, I have seen here. Also up to 150 fieldfare, though they were all flying north this morning! Lots of Meadow Pipits still about and a flock of 41 Goldfinch. Up to 18 Buzzards are still around in the newly planted fields and across the valley on the fields just sprayed with slurry are probably 500 or more Gulls.

Re: Lower Severalls area, Crewkerne.

A nice walk this morning produced, amongst others, c250 fieldfare, 2 redwing, 10 buzzards, a pied wagtail and 8 yellowhammers.

Re: Lower Severalls area, Crewkerne.

It has been a good winter for Yellowhammers on the farm this year with c15 seen this morning some in full voice. There was also a very vocal Raven annoying one of several Buzzards still about. c150 Fieldfare still feeding in the cereal fields too.

Re: Lower Severalls area, Crewkerne.

An exciting PM walk today as a Peregrine scattered the 100 or so Fieldfares and Redwings in an unsuccessful attack. Also of note were 8 Golden Plover and c10 Yellowhammers.

Re: Lower Severalls area, Crewkerne.

Birds seen this morning during a lovely crisp walk around the farm included c60 Golden Plover and similar numbers of Lapwing this morning in with c500 Gulls. 6 Buzzards sat in one tree, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 5Fieldfares and 1 Yellowhammer. All this despite machinery starting the construction of a large solar farm on this site!
