Durleigh Reservoir

Water level rapidly rising, increase in Mallard numbers today , 216 counted , Teal still at about 50. Single Mute Swan and Little Grebe-both scarce here. Exotics included the long staying Mandarin and Bar-headed Goose.
A pair of Mallard were indulging in courtship and then finally the male mounted the female and mated with her-spring is coming !!

Adult Kittiwake and juv/1st-winter Common Tern early PM.
Mallard numbers now up to 282; 164 Canada Geese, 31 Teal and single Little Grebe, Wigeon & Tufted Duck.

A single Goosander present this afternoon. The large numbers of Mallard and Teal seem to have deserted the reservoir now their favoured shallow feeding area has disappeared.
