Not sure of the location but I see Jeff Acreman has posted a series of photos on facebook which he identified as a bittern, but which someone has subsequently re-identified as a juvenile night heron, and I am wondering if this could be connected with the sighting recently reported from Steart, and, although this is pure speculation, could Night Herons have bred locally?
Just heard back from Jeff Acreman and apparently the bird was photographed two days ago at Canada Lake, Shapwick. I will copy the pictures onto my facebook wall so that other people can have a look.
