red breasted flycatcher

yesterday, a red breasted flycatcher, north of merriott

Re: red breasted flycatcher

Hi,
Any further details please? Red-breasted Flycatcher is exceedingly rare in Somerset but always possible as an autumn migrant. Are you able to give the precise location, when and for how long it was seen, or any other detail that might help other birders to look for and hopefully see this bird, please?

Thank you.

Re: red breasted flycatcher

Thanks - I'll give it a try.

Re: red breasted flycatcher

Just interested why you think its a red-breasted flycatcher rather than the much more probable pied flycatcher?

Re: red breasted flycatcher

I observed the bird for a long time. There were no black and white markings on the wings. Under the throat was reddish and the rest was white. The tail was very distinctive, black with white side markings. It also continually cocked the tail and the cheeks were grey.
