help with identity

Buckland st Mary on the Blackdowns very dark falcon gliding towards staple hill, didnt have any optics and watched it for 30 seconds. Peregrine style wings squared tail no wing fingers approximately 60 cm with wingspan roughly the same. Very dark brown few mottled spots on chest headed towards Taunton any ideas?

Re: help with identity

A previous thread makes reference to more than one recent sighting of a possible Eleanora's falcon in Somerset.

Re: help with identity

Hi Ben
I have had a look in my reference books and that was my thought as well i watched it glide at about 150 feet but given the rareness of the Eleanor i wouldn't want to definetly say it was. There is a big concentration of Buzzards in that area but i am 100% sure it wasn't, my first thought as i got closer was a red Kite but then it had no forked tail. I hope it was Eleanor's as that would be good for the county!! Thanks for your input appreciated it
