At Ham Wall this morning watched a 2 week old and very late (but what isn't this year) Lapwing chick swim the canal to rejoin its parent on the far bank. Potentially this conservation triumph for Somerset was thwarted an hour later by the chick being predated by a Carrion Crow!
(I will admit that it took be a while to id this bird, given its circumstances - it swam well though!).
