Alison Everett and I visited the usual Mendip site last night. The nightjars appear to have mainly moved across the road. Several heard churring at various locations but only one seen briefly in flight by Alison. Another seen by other birders. I dipped! However numbers appear to be well down on previous years.
Traffic is a real problem, especially when trying to hear them!
Midges very prolific and despite our best efforts at being stalwart, we had to concede defeat after about half an hour of searching.
