"There's a small hotel", brano eseguito da Mina a "Gran Varietà '78", ma non inciso, fa parte di "Pal Joey"
Quando si trattò di portare sullo schermo "Pal Joey" che tanto successo aveva avuto a Broadway nel 1940 con Gene Kelly nel ruolo del protagonista, Harry Cohn, capo degli studi Columbia, avrebbe voluto ancora lui. ma Gene Kelly era sotto contratto con la Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Cahn allora si orientò su James Cagney e più tardi su Cary Grant, ma l'avvento della seconda Guerra Mondiale, congelò il progetto fino ai primi anni cinquanta.
Cohn avrebbe voluto Marlon Brando e Mae West per i ruoli chiave, ma fu Frank Sinatra a spuntarla.
Sinatra, che fu così gentile, da lasciare il primo posto in cartellone a Rita Hayworth, legata da lunga data con contratto alla Columbia.
Nel film sia Rita Hayworth che la co-protagonista Kim Novak sono doppiate nelle parti cantate.

Anche nella trasposizione cinematografica le canzoni erano la parte migliore di "Pal Joey" e vennero mantenute dieci canzoni del musical originale di Rodgers & Hart, più quattro brani aggiunti: "My Funny Valentine," "There's a Small Hotel," "I Didn't Know What Time It Was," e "The Lady is a Tramp".
