Finding Lost Classmates

Here's an effective way to locate missing classmates!

College alumni associations are great for tracking people after they graduate. If you know where someone went to school, contact the alumni office at that college or university. Give them the name of the individual, their high school or city of origin, and the year they graduated. When we put together our 25th reunion, I sent postcards to many of the universities and located many of our HHS59 classmates.

Now with more attention given to sharing sources, some alumni offices will no longer give out the present address but will contact the person and tell them that you are trying to contact them.

This is how Barb Kintz Egner found Sara Jo Victors! Barb called the alumni office at Indiana University, and requested Sara Jo's present address. The person in the alumni office called Sara in Arizona, letting her know that Barb was trying to contact her, and gave Sara, Barb's phone number. In a matter of two hours, Sara called Barb and they were back in touch with one another. Sara does not have email access but is listed in our HHS59 student directory.

If you use this approach and you locate a classmate, please share the information and the story with us! We thought Indiana University did a great job and hope other schools will be as cooperative as I.U.

If you have other ideas or approaches for locating missing classmates, please let us know!
