I moved from the USS Hornet with two of my buddies to the USS Kitty Hawk in
about March 1966. Once onboard,they made us flip a coin to decide our fate.
I wound up in V3 division, while my buddies, Harry Castle and Terry Alan Williams, were assigned to V1 division.
We served on KH until near the end of 1968. Both the 6 day Israeli war and the TET offensive occurred during our stay on the Kitty.
My friend, Terry Alan Williams(Will), and I stayed in touch and visited occassionally until his death in the Fall of 2014. He was from Friendsville, TN.
However, my other buddy, Harry Castle (Cass) seems to have disappeared shortly after we last saw him in 1968. We searched for him to no avail.
Harry was from Grand Junction, CO. He claimed that 'Castle Rock' near Denver
was named after some of his ancestors. He was a freckle faced redheaded
kid with a very stout build. I saw him on the flight deck sometimes wearing
a silver colored fire suit (one of his V1 duties).
I am from Houston, TX where I have lived since my discharge from America's NAVY.
