I remember your father well. The two Chaplain offices were on the 03 level right across the passageway from Cat 3 and 4 Retraction Engine rooms and just inboard from the Ship's Library. He would occasionally peek his head in when we were trying to gently cajole a reluctant piece of catapult machinery to mend the error of its ways.
The most vivid memory of your Dad was his Temporary Assigned Duty in Sept 1961 as "The Royal Chaplain" - a member of King Neptune's Court as we crossed the equator and were initiated into the realm of King Neptunus Rex. He passed judgment on all us slimy pollywogs. In the 'Around the Horn' cruise book, he is featured in a full page photo wearing his traditional cassock, clerical collar, a "halo" and holding "The Book" and a sign - "No Mercy". Great memories. In spite of his unrelenting, preconceived judgment towards all slimy pollywogs that day, we were all better persons and shipmates for having known him. My condolences to you and your family.
