Hi. My father had passed away several years ago and I remember him saying that his last ship on duty was USS Kitty Hawk. I had never seen my father so excited as on the day we took a tour on the carrier in San Diego. I looked for his name on the crew list but didn't find it. Probably because he was a merchant marine. Is there a crew list that I can view of merchant marines? It would be something of a sentimental value to my family.
Hello Gloria. Depending on your father's age, he may have served on the first USS Kitty Hawk. Her designation was APV-1 or AKV-1 which was a transport and aircraft ferry in the early 1940's. The Kitty Hawk was formerly a merchant ship named SS Seatrain New York built in 1932 and was converted by the U.S. Navy as a transport. If he was aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, send me his name and I can look at other websites to see if he was listed.
