Anyone notice the sale of the Forrestal for one penny in today's news? It was sold for scrap. You would think the government could do the parting out, and recoup some of the money spent to build her. Sad day.

Think that was bad, you should've been aboard the USS Ashtabula (AO-51) when they went to de-commission her in 83'. I was on her last voyage back to Pearl. If they sold half the stuff they splashed, we could have built the whole aft end of that ship, new power plant included. Instead, we traded 8 tons of defective cadmium steel bolts to get her a new paint job top-side and non skid to make her look pretty for the Ceremony. Those bolts ended up on the Kitty a couple of years later...and I recieved them!!! Talk about "what goes around..." LOL
