Hi I am not an old frend but a fellow travlier please read on.... I boarded the Kitty Hawk in 1972 when it left Subic Bay on its way to the Persian Gulf. You might remember that there was an explosion and we went to General Quarters the first couple of days out. "This is not a drill this is not a drill" were serious words to hear for a new guy fresh out of boot and A school having only been on the water for a couple days. It turned out to be a boiler explosion. Also shortly after that the elevator operator fell overboard and was never found. What a first trip that was. I was in transit to the USS Long Beach CGN-9.
Any way the reason I am writing you is about a rumor that we heard that summer about a full fledged riot and Mutiny caused by racial tensions aboard the Kitty Hawk. I have been telling a fellow seaman who was also in the Gulf at that time and am trying to verify...or disprove ...the rumor.
Do you know anything about this?
