Re: Southbound Pigeons

Loads here south of Taunton going E-W.
Is the title "southbound" insinuating that they are moving N-S? Aren't these our very flighty friends from the Low Countries?

Re: Southbound Pigeons

The impressive movements of Woodpigeons we see most autumns now can in fact be in any direction depending on the wind direction on the day, and even in different directions at different sites on the same day. Predominantly between south-east and west, though, and the large numbers seen heading out off Portland Bill on some occasions suggest that most are generally heading south out of Britain. It would be interesting to find out whether all do, however - do some perhaps winter in the South West, or even head west to Ireland?

Re: Southbound Pigeons

Flock of about 100 moving south over Burtle this morning.

Re: Southbound Pigeons

Big flock (250+) in trees and flying over edge of Bridgwater (by cemetery) at noon yesterday (12th).

Re: Southbound Pigeons

Yes, a very large flock seen flying south over the canal yesterday, so maybe it was one that you also saw Bill.

Re: Southbound Pigeons

Saw circa 300+ over Frome on Wednesday in single flock
