Young Marsh Warbler

Saturday at Ham Wall I saw what I think was a young Marsh warbler with a busy parent. A nice couple pointed out to me. I didn't get a pic of the adult sadly.

Also:
Bittern
GWE
Marsh Harrier
Sparrowhawk

Pictures of all of the above on the site.

Re: Young Marsh Warbler

I would be very surprised James, an extremely rare breeder in the UK and mainly recorded in Suffolk/Norfolk. The more than likely candidate would be Reed Warbler.

Re: Young Marsh Warbler

Marsh Warbler is also a schedule 1 bird, so if there really is a nest, I wouldn't advertise it. Except with superb views, it can only be separated from reed warbler by song. Given the abundance of reed warblers at Ham Wall, that is the far more likely option - but still a very nice set of photos.

Re: Young Marsh Warbler

Yes. They look identical to me. Although the couple who showed it to me did say that they identified it by it's call. Still I was happy with whatever it was!
