Re: Curlew Sandpiper at Meare Heath

The Bristol Ornithological Club (Tuesday group) wishes to thank PK for his help yesterday. We only had 2 members who topped 6'2" so only they were able to see 'the pack' as it sheltered below the bank. However the birds spooked and settled on the mud enabling us all to ID and show some of our fledgling birders a new species in the shape of the Curlew Sandpiper. On our way back from Noah's we also ID's the Whimbrel and (the reason for the post) a fine breeding plumage Dunlin. We didn't make contact with the Redshank unfortunately.
Views of Great White and Marsh Harrier where nothing short of brilliant (all be it from Ham Wall), Hobbies in good numbers but we all had problems seeing 'the red trousers' so often quoted in the literature.

The wind would have cut steel - had it blown a little harder!
