Catcott Lows

Late a.m at the new Catcott Fen yielded a complete blank not even a Robin in the hedgerows, transferring to the Lows car park hide at 1230 circa 40 Black Tailed God Wits were present as were a 10 Lapwing plus a good number of wintering duck. A fence mending operation moved the G'Wits at 1300 and they were last seen heading for Steart? (they had not returned by 1515hrs). A Marsh Harrier then appeared accompanied by an adult Peregrine and over the next hour and a half they paid three further visits, between them creating mayhem the Peregrine making multiple attacking runs at the duck that each time had been disturbed by the Harriers overflying. Neither had any success but they did put up 8 Snipe.

Single Great White Egret still this afternoon, also a Marsh Harrier and 42 Black-t Godwits, but still no sign of a Garganey.

Re: Catcott Lows

Tranquil evening at Catcott today. Still a fair few teal, 2 pairs of shoveler, plus a bachelor trying to impress the ladies, chased off after some posturing. Four pairs gadwall and one male and one female pintail - hard to call a pair as at opposite ends of the reserve. Five separate grey herons fishing across the lows and six roe deer. And hot on the heels of Alan's greylag family at Westhay, a female mallard with 3 ducklings.
