Re: Westhay

Very windy over the moor yesterday, but did flush the Short Eared Owl from beneath my feet on the raised bog, in the vicinity of the gorse bushes. Not sure who was the most startled! Nice flock of 6 - 8 Redpolls in the alders on the southern side of the bog, otherwise 2 Chiffchaffs & 16 Goosander the only other birds of note & 1 Golden Plover with large flock of Lapwings, south of the reserve.

Re: Westhay

Productive morning at Westhay, the Short Eared Owl, 2 Jack Snipe and 8 Snipe from the raised bog, 3 Great White Egrets, 5 Goosander and male and female Marsh Harriers along London Drove, also 2 showy Water Rails from the Viridor hide

Re: Westhay

No sign of the SEO yesterday (Friday) when I visited the raised bog. Presumably it was sleeping undisturbed in its chosen roosting site, just as it should be.

Re: Westhay

Walked around the raised bog twice this morning, keeping to the path, from first light , no sign of the SEO or much else, rather disappointed, however plenty of action on the water in other parts of Westhay.
