Steart Marshes - 23 Jan 2015

Steart Marshes - 23 January 2015 (morning)

1 Merlin (female/2cy type) - located on a fence post. Remained for 10 minutes and then flew off low and fast and began hunting. Stalled in flight and stooped down at two separate Meadow Pipits but then lost to view.

2 Peregrine (adults, both probably male) - perched on favoured roost sites approximately 1km apart.

3 Kestrel - an adult male perched on a fence post and two others hover-hunting.

3 Common Buzzard - loafing about on low perches.

1 Short-eared Owl - flushed from the marshes by the incoming tide. Flew up quite high (c100m altitude) and then moved away NE across the River Parrett towards Huntspill Sluice.
