SOS field meeting at Carymoor Sat 10th Jan.

This is a reminder that Roger Dickey and I will be leading the SOS field meeting at Carymoor this coming Saturday 10th January. We'll meet by the Carymoor Environmental Centre building which is situated about a mile south west of Castle Cary and accessed via the main entrance to Dimmer landfill site. The grid reference for the meeting point is ST617312 and the post code is BA7 7NR.
The walk begins at 9.30 and will finish at around 12.30. We'll have a look at the bird forage crops which currently support good numbers of buntings and finches, then take in the neighbouring Cary Marsh Nature Reserve before walking over the former landfill site where jack snipe is a distinct possibility. The site is muddy in places so wellies are recommended. Everyone is welcome.

19 of us braved the elements and attended the Carymoor walk this morning. Despite the blustery conditions, a good range of species were seen, including reed buntings, yellowhammers, a pair of stonechats (nice to see these back, after a long absence from the site) and 2 jack snipe.
