Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

A Hoopoe seen this morning at Dunster Beach on the holiday site. Very flighty and mobile - seen next to the car park at one end of the site and on grass adjacent to the Golf Course at the opposite end about 15 minutes later. Also seen on the grassy area adjacent to the beach on the seaward side of the huts

Re: Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

Dunster Hoopoe went to roost at 16.00 (by others) whilst we were
searching, earlier excellent views of Golf Course Snow
Bunting and at Chetsford Water 5 Ring Ouzal and
lone Redwing

Re: Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

good views today late morning after many birders searching for what appeared to be an elusive bird. eventually found on the seaward side of the chalets between two wooden benches often hiding in long plantation along the sea defence netting area. it then reappeared and showed well moving to an area close to the chalets under a mallow plant (a large plant with pink flowers) snow bunting also reported along the golf course at the 11th hole

Re: Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

Hoopoe showing well this morning 8.30 on the beach side of the chalets when flushed by only lady walker on whole beach and flew towards main carpark area no sign of snow bunting this morning on golf course but i expect it is still around

Re: Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

The Hoopoe was around most of the day around the chalets either on the beachside or near the tennis court. The Snow Bunting was still on the golf course feeding between the path and pebbles about 100m west of the 12th tee at lunchtime. Also on the golf course a Wheatear and another on the groynes near the car park. Slightly odd was the Common Sandpiper feeding around the base of the timber groynes.
Earlier at Hurlstone a Great Northern Diver and a late Manx Shearwater.

Re: Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

hia, the hoopoe was still showing on the beach side by the drift netting late afternoon. Also present was a wheatear, good numbers of oystercatchers ring plover turnstones & sanderling on a rising tide. Off shore was what looked like a female Gadwall ??. cheers Chris Thorne

Re: Hoopoe at Dunster Beach

No sign of hoopoe this morning, but juvenile wheatear, white wagtail, and flocks of 150 and 100 redwing over.
