Steart WeBS July

The coordinated WeBS count for Bridgwater Bay NNR has recently been expanded to include WWT Steart Marshes. The high tide count on 13th July showed at least 2000 Shelduck present in Bridgwater Bay with rafts of moulting birds forming out to sea. Evidence of the start of the wader autumn passage included a Wood Sandpiper, two Ruff, a Greenshank and Green Sandpiper. Mediterranean Gulls were present in Bridgwater Bay and Steart Marshes and the population of Black-headed Gulls on the peninsula increased to over 1500 birds.

There has also been one or more Whimbrels around for the past week.
