cuckoo calling just east of Watchet first time for numerous years.

And a calling cuckoo in central Frome Tuesday morning, 10am, for ~ 10 minutes. First one I've heard here in 10 years! Very exciting!

One male heard on Pawlett Hams yesterday evening and another seen near the Huntspill sluice this morning.

My impression is that cuckoos are less scarce this season than for many summers past. In addition to those mentioned above I have heard (and sometimes seen)at least two birds this year on the Quantocks, on Exmoor and at Ham Wall / Shapwick Heath. Perhaps I am just kidding myself but I have found this encouraging. And I could make a similar comment about Nightingales.

Between Simonsbath and Kinsford Gate I saw 2 Cuckoos today!!
