Standing on Bathpool Bridge this morning, watching the sand martin numbers starting to build over Creech Castle, when a group of three jays flew past me, and headed across the main road in the direction of Hankridge.
The sand martins nest in the drainage holes under the bridge which leads into the sawmill behind Creech Castle, But last year they appeared to have abandoned the site, possibly because, the previous summer the nests were completely washed out by the summer floods. We can only hope that, this year, they return, and are not disturbed by OVER ENTHUSIASTIC PHOTOGRAPHERS.
Sand martin numbers have now built up quite substantially and this evening I saw six swallows, all heading in a westerly direction along the line of the river.
