The spring is certainly underway. Chiffchaffs having been calling for a week now in the lane and this morning I had two Blackcaps calling.
However, the highlight in the last few days has seen a good deal of Great Spotted Woodpecker activity. Yesterday I saw 6 and today 5. There has been lots of ‘spring’ drumming, with two birds drumming in the same tree and then being joined by a third – attracted by the drumming presumably?

• Wittering Goldfinch & wheezing Greenfinch
• Stock dove
• 2 x single Little Owl
• Raven
• A herd of up to 8 Roe Deer in the fields around the Dutch barn – early mornings.
