Marsh Tits

At least a dozen Marsh Tits in the Edford Wood area this morning inc attempts at some early Song. Give it 3 weeks or so and Marsh Tits (based on several years of local observations) will start getting vocal.
A Song Thrush was also attempting some Song, which was very broken and had a fair way to go to be classified as Singing.
Small number of Siskins around but no sign of any Crossbills.

2 Goosanders on the Huntspill River on Thursday were my first of the Winter. Weekly checks at Emborough Pond have so far drawn a blank.

Re: Marsh Tits

I saw my first Marsh tit, in my own garden onJan 21st, and again 2 days later. At first I thought it was a Black cap, but then realised the conformation was quite different. (Mine is a very big garden, bordering woodland.)
