Murder on the Moat

Today 9.00am a Lesser Black Backed Gull flew around a turret of Wells moat with a duckling in his bill Landed on the water - despatched the duckling in about 30secs and took another two minutes to swallow . Flew onto the wall to preen and digest - but then after a couple of minutes went after another brood - The ducklings probably only a day or two old dived (all eight of them) and the mother saw off the gull this time .

Re: Murder on the Moat

I wander if this is a repeat offender!? I saw a lesser black back swimming near some moorhen chicks in the same location. However the parents bravely saw off the marauder!
