Two great white egrets, two bitterns seen (lots more heard),lots of calling cuckoos, several marsh harriers and a fly-over red kite were the highlights at Ham Wall this morning. Surprisingly the only waders were a pair of redshanks in front of the first viewing platform. At Shapwick, on the lagoon just up the path from Ashcott Corner, there were about 50 black-tailed godwits, and we saw four more bitterns nearby. Two hobbies were catching dragonflies and there were three more marsh harriers there. A really great morning on the levels!
