Pepper Family History Lurgan Ireland

Hi everyone,

sorry to see that the Lurgan website is no longer available since it was very good.
I have been researching my family history for some years and find my gr gr grandfather Samuel Pepper and gr gr grandmother Margaret Anne McIlvenny were married in in The Church of Ireland Lurgan in 1873.
The wedding certificate states that Samuel's father was a Hamilton Pepper but we think this may be an error on the registrar's part since their first son was called Samuel James Pepper (my gr grandad) Margaret Anne's father was called James McIlvenny and we assume that Samuel James was named after Margaret's father and Samuel Pepper's father.

The family lived in Hill street Lurgan but I have yet been unable to find any further info on them. The family came from Ireland to Thornaby Yorkshire England in about 1874 and had more children, one called John Richardson Pepper, which could be a clue to someone's maiden name. A daughter was also born who they named Harriet and we think either Samuel or Margaret's mother may have been called this.
Would love to hear from anyone who has any further info.
I can be contacted on my e-mail dawnryder2000@yahoo.co.uk

Re: Pepper Family History Lurgan Ireland

Hi Dawn,

Re: McIlvenny,Neill,O'Neill,Quinn,Hand,Robin,Monaghan

I have just came across this site and am disappointed too to learn of the Lurgan site. Trust my so called Irish Luck!

As you can see the names I am re-searching and would be interested to see if my great great granny Catherine McIlvenny, is linked to your line. She married Alexander Quinn abt.1860 in Belfast and buried in Milltown Cemetery abt.1905. They owned a Boot & Shoemakers in Belfast.

Regards.

My Great, Great Grandmother was Mary Pepper. She married Thomas Harland in 1855 at the age of 19. Mary came from Balliblagh, her fathers name was Jacob. They left with 6 children on the ship "British Empire" on the 11 July 1875 and came to New Zealand. We may be related.

In reply to Andrew Harland's email regarding the Pepper family... i think your great great grandmother Mary Pepper is sister to my great great grandfather John Pepper. Would be interested if you had any other information. Can you contact me on ethelpirvine@btinternet.com

Douglas family from shankill. Lurgan.

Does anyone have any information on the Douglas family from shankill, Lurgan.

Re: Douglas family from shankill. Lurgan.

The Douglas families I am more interested in are just across the border in Co Down. However, I have some baptism of Douglas in Kinnego abt 1825-1830, Shankill Parish Church, and some 1901 census records which may have a Douglas. What time period, which names, and what place are you looking at? rconard at blarg.net

Re: Douglas family from shankill. Lurgan.

Hi

My Douglas line comes from Lurgan (My gggggrandfather was born 1771; William Douglas of Lurgan)

I'm interested in any information regards Douglas's in the area that you are able to share. We have been trying to find our William Douglas's parents and think that he had at least 2 brothers named John and Hillary.

Re: Douglas family from shankill. Lurgan.

Hi

Just saw your post regards Douglas's in the Lurgan area. My gggggrandfather was born near Lurgan, 1771 (William Douglas of Lurgan). Don't know where 'near Lurgan" is as we have not located birth records yet.

What have you been able to find out regards the Douglas's here? We think that our Douglas had at least 2 brothers, John and Hillary.
