Robert Ellis Thompson, b. 1844, Lurgan. Professor in Pennsylvania

I'm not related to this man, but I'm writing a short biography of him to appear in the Dictionary of Irish Biography. Does anyone know about his family background in Ireland? He was a Presbyterian minister and professor in the university of Pennsylvania from 1868.

I am a local historian in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. I have just learned that Prof. Thompson lived on a large estate in Wyncote in what was then a wealthy country village. He lived in Wyncote approximately from 1883 to 1891. He may have found the property courtesy of his collaborator, Wharton Barker, a wealthy banker and political activist, who had an estate nearby. Barker purchased the Thompson estate in 1891.
