Douglas

Does anyone know of a web site which could help me find the names of the early Douglas clan who settled in or nr.Lurgan on the shores of Lough Neagh.

Many Thanks,
Mavis Douglas

Re: Douglas

I am also looking for early Douglas settlers in Lurgan - hoping to connect them with Douglases who later went to Co. Wicklow.
I have a copy of the Brownlow leasebook 1667-1711 and DUGLIS/Douglas are mentioned in it-
" DUGLAS tenement for £1 fine to HENRY DUGLASS for 21 yeares from Lady Day 1687 at £1 rent per annum. Rest as usuall dated 2nd Feb. 1687."
Robert Douglas was renting from Thomas Reade 1677
This was in Lurgan too.

Look at the IGI for early Douglases in Ulster.

Re: Re: Douglas

Hi Judy,
Thanks for the contact. I am sure we can extend on this.

In the mean time Co. Wicklow is interesting for my Rev. William Douglas (1771-1860) b. nr. Lurgan m. in 1806 Mary Atkin in Co. Wicklow. We are descended from this line of Douglas

What is interesting is that the following marriages are also mentioned and I have often wondered if they were siblings of my William Douglas.

Anne Douglas m. Jacob Whaley 20/6/1803
Margaret Douglas m. Thomas Saunders 18/10/1804
Henry Douglas m. Elizabeth Scott 29/8/1805
William Douglas m. Mary Atkin 1806.

Any Connections?
