During the Westpac of 84 or 85, I remember the Hawk colliding with a Russian submarine somewhere in the Pacific. I was an HT at that time and I remember doing sound measurements immediately. As a result the sub's propeller or part of it got lodged on the hull of our ship. It was then recovered by Hawks divers and placed on a plaque for display. I'm wondering if the plaque is still there as a souvenir for everyone to see.
Shipmates,
The piece of propellor from the Victor I is now located in the CO's inport cabin. We show it to all the visitors passing through and explain the story!
