Dal veterano Paul McCartney alla giovanissima Lorde, ma soprattutto Daft Punk tra i vincitori della 56ma edizione dei Grammy Awards. E come sempre un lunghissimo show che ha regalato anche momenti di forte impatto, come quando Sir Paul ha interpretato una nuova canzone accompagnato alla batteria dall'altro ex Beatle Ringo Starr e in platea anche Yoko Ono si è alzata per ballare. O come quando 34 coppie, alcune delle quali omosessuali, si sono unite in matrimonio sul palco mentre Macklemore e Ryan Lewis eseguivano il loro inno "Same love", con Madonna a fare da madrina.

Due dei premi principali sono andati ai Daft Punk: Get Lucky ha ottenuto la palma quale Record of the Year - cioé il premio che viene attribuito all'artista e al team di realizzazione di un singolo brano, mentre il premio Song of the Year va all'autore - anche quella per la migliore performance pop di uno duo, e Random Access Memories quella di album dell'anno e il miglior album dance/electronica. Il duo formato dai francesi Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo e Thomas Bangalter, che per l'occasione è ricomparso in tv dopo sei anni, si è presentato sul palco con l'abbigliamento che è il suo marchio di fabbrica, completo dei futuristici caschi. E con la sua esibizione, complice Stevie Wonder, ha trasformato lo Staples Center in una discoteca.

La diciassettenne neozelandese Lorde, fino all'anno scorso sconosciuta, ha vinto nella categoria canzone dell'anno con Royals e per la miglior performance pop da solista.

Paul McCartney, insieme agli ex Nirvana Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic e Pat Smear, si è aggiudicato il Grammy Award per la migliore canzone rock con Cut Me Some Slack.

Miglior pop/vocal album Unorthodox Jukebox di Bruno Mars, mentre Jay Z e Justin Timberlake hanno vinto il grammofonino d'oro per la migliore collaborazione rap con Holy Grail.

Al duo rap Macklemore & Ryan Lewis è stato assegnato il Grammy per il migliore nuovo artista, oltre ai grammofoni per la migliore canzone rap, la migliore performance e il migliore album rap.
